Sketchbook Assignments
A sketchbook is a book or pad with blank pages for sketching and is frequently used by artists for drawing or painting as a part of their creative process. Creating artwork in sketchbooks can fall into one of the three categories:
Observation: this focuses on the documentation of the external world, and a record of the artist's experiences.
Invention: this follows the artist’s inventions and internal journeys as he or she develops compositional ideas.
Small Project: this is a FINISHED artwork that is on a smaller scale.
For Art I, you will turn in a small FINISHED artwork in your sketchbook every two weeks. Even though we are using your sketchbook for small finished artworks, your sketchbook is an ideal place for planning artwork, taking notes, practicing sketching, and trying out new techniques. In addition, sketchbooks are great because you're not confined to just drawing. You can use it as a place to explore different mediums, study different techniques, create color palettes, design patterns, and keep a collection of visuals that inspire you. Using a variety of mediums in a sketchbook also helps grow creativity.
